Anne – Fort Collins
When I decided to try neuro-feedback therapy, I was at the end of my rope. I have suffered from depression-like symptoms off and on throughout my adulthood. I had even tried some anti-depressants prescribed by my family doctor. But I was not happy with the results and worried about the side effects.
Yet I had to do something. I was not sleeping well, had no energy, felt overwhelmed and did not really care if I was alive or dead. I was also struggling with short-term memory loss and had begun to worry about my performance at work.
When I had my first brain map done, I was surprised that the results reflected my personality so thoroughly. The map showed that the front areas of my brain where on over-drive. This area was hyper-active, never relaxing and over-emotional. No wonder I was not sleeping. My brain never turned off. This explained my tendency to over-react to situations and feel overwhelmed when confronted with setbacks in my life. The back areas of my brain, however, were depressed. These are the memory areas.
The first benefit I have experienced with neuro-feedback is the feeling of being in control again. I made the decision to do something about feeling bad and the action I take each time I have a session reinforces my belief that I can feel better. I no longer feel hopeless. It is important to me to see that what I am feeling has a cause. The brain map proved that the symptoms I have are not imaginary. It has been a relief to finally talk to someone about my problems. The staff at Functional Medicine Center of Fort Collins has been very supportive.
The second benefit I experienced right away is that I started to sleep better. That has made a huge difference in my tendency to over-react to situations. I am no longer as fuzzy-brained or over-emotional.
I am currently working on the over-reactive areas of my brain at FMCFC. Soon, we will focus more on the depressed areas. I am making progress as is shown by subsequent brain maps. I would highly recommend this procedure to anyone suffering from similar symptoms as mine. It is an easy and enjoyable procedure that takes some commitment but is worth it.
